Plot: At a press conference for the upcoming Justice League, executive producer Deborah Snyder opened up about the fact that her husband, Zack, had to step aside from directing the movie before it was completed.
The husband and wife team revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May that the director would be stepping away following the death of their daughter. Joss Whedon stepped in to complete the movie, guiding it through reshoots and postproduction.
"I think, for us, this whole thing is so bittersweet," Deborah Snyder said in response to a question about her husband's departure. "We had been working on this franchise for the last, almost eight years [from] when we'd been developing the script for Man of Steel, and then we moved on to BvS and also, Zack developed the story for Wonder Woman, which was leading up to the point of Justice League, where the characters were going to come together. I mean, this was a great hero's journey, and a journey for these characters to be the characters that they are today. So not being able to complete his vision was extremely difficult."
She went on, "Our feeling is, we're hoping that people don't think about how this movie was made when they go to see it, because these characters are bigger than any director, they're bigger than any of us. We love and adore these characters."
Both Deborah Snyder and fellow producer Charles Roven pointed out that Whedon had already been working with Zack Snyder ahead of taking over the movie. Jason Momoa and Ben Affleck both talked about the contributions Zack Snyder had made not only to Justice League, but the DC franchises moving forward, with Momoa saying, "It all came from Zack's mind," teasing, "I want people to know, in a year, you're going to understand where he came from, what happened to his mother, what happened to his father, and how he was treated in this world." Well, now we know what the 2018 Aquaman movie is going to be about, it seems …
